Ensure you have the right things
The first thing that you will need to do when packing for your move is make sure that you have the right supplies. Cardboard boxes and packing tape are a must for packing. You will also want to make sure that you have markers and pens. Making sure that you have enough of all of this is key to packing as efficiently as possible. Having to make multiple trips to top up on boxes or tape will slow you down and interrupt your flow. Not only that, you may end up spending more on fuel than you would have if you had bought a few too many boxes.

Clear your junk
Before packing you will want to clear out anything that you will not want to bring with you to the new house. This means that you will want to go through all of your belongings and get rid of anything that you don't need or barely use. Not only will this save on the truck, it will also reduce clutter when you get to your new home and speed up unpacking. Unwanted junk takes up space that could be better utilized for something else. If sold, unwanted items may help to pay for new decorations and furniture for your new home.
Proper Labeling
It is important to ensure that every single box or container is labelled appropriately. In order to do this you will need to make sure that every box is sorted in a way that makes sense. The best way to do this is to sort things by the room that they came from or by the room that they are intended for. If you are unsure yet where you might want things, you may instead sort like items by type such as appliances. Proper labelling will help with organisation and make unpacking ten times easier.
Stacking order
When packing things into boxes take care of the order in which you stack things. Anything that you may need soon after the move should be put towards the top of the box, if not in a separate bag that you keep with you. Make sure that you do not place any heavy items on top of anything that might be fragile. Improper packing could lead to things breaking during transit.
Protection
Make sure to protect any fragile items by wrapping them in something protective such as bubble wrap. If you do not have access to some sort of padding material, one thing that everyone has that makes for good padding is clothes. Just make sure to use enough clothes to ensure that your fragile items will not be banging against each other.
Leave nothing behind
Before closing up all of your boxes, you will want to ensure that you have not forgotten to pack anything. If possible you want to avoid having to open up your boxes again. Not only is this inconvenient and a waste of tape, it may also result in a need to repack the whole box. The other reason that you want to make sure not to forget anything is that you don't want to lose any of your belongings by leaving them behind.
